Fairly new to travel life and each team has been a different experience. At 14u- is it possible to play competitive B level and have a "family" atmosphere? Am I holding out for the holy grail or is it strictly business at this point?

I have heard rumors of such a thing lol. DD is now 16U and family time now happens when High school ball takes place and just when you get use to it its over. But I wouldn't trade a thing due to this sport she loves to play DW and I spend more quality time with DD than any family I know. Mostly driving which is good she trapped and has to listen or at least we think so ;).

Yes it is absolutely possible, even at A level. It all depends on the coach and what kind of atmosphere he maintains.

I agree that it all starts with the coach. If he/she allows bullying and cliques the girls will never bond and the parents will never be a family. That is what happened on DD's TB team over the past 2 years. The girls play as individuals not as a team and it is a shame because there is alot of talent on that team.

DD plays on a travel basketball team however where without a doubt we are family. Most of the girls have been together for 4 years and the girls and families are wonderful! The coaches stress the importance of team - not individuals and that has carried thru. SO - yeah - possible and great when it happens!

Lol - yes! She just gave up soccer this year too so we actually feel like we can breathe!
Thankfully her BBall team goes dark for 6 months (Mar-Sept) so the conflicts with softball are few and far between. :)
Although - she wants to take up flag football and volleyball...so...
