the party's over.

My very special daughter played her last tournament this week. It was bittersweet to say the least. She and her team played ok in pool play but turned it on for the bracket. In yesterday's third game we were down by 4 after one. Slowly we crept back and tied it in the bottom of the sixth. We held them and Boo got up. She'd struck out on a change the last at bat and the girl thought she could go back to the well. DD jacked one over the CF wall. I could not have written it better considering the circumstances. With tons of rain in the forecast I thought that would be her last at bat and what an at bat. This morning it was a gully washer and it looked like the day would be lost and it would be her last at bat. By 9 the rain had stopped so we went to the fields and the crew got them ready for a noon start. We pounded a local rivalry to move in to the semi final against the RI Thunder. Around here, Lotti's team is generally thought highly of. While we didn't win, 2-6 we showed ok, just left too many runners on base. Boo was 2-3 with a walk. Not as dramatic as yesterday but still finished with a positive experience and productive day at Team NJ.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the last 10 years and wouldn't trade them for the world. I want to thank all those that helped us along in this journey. The list is long but if you look at most of the long time posters you can figure they are probably among the rolls that helped.

To those in the middle or just starting out, enjoy your time. Try to keep in mind it's a game and it's supposed to be fun. Push gently and encourage. I hope you get as much joy an fulfillment as I did.

Boo and teammates at the start of this year's Team NJ tournament. This was a great team and I'll miss all the girls that played. DD cried a bit when they gave her the poster and I had to go for a little walk.

Great song and while it does capture the mood of the last day we have to move on and be as supportive as she needs us to be. It is hard to imagine being an empty nester without softball so I'm probably going back to coaching.

Back on the dirt...
I hate reading these posts. They bring a tear to my eye as i know one day this will come for us too. Glad to hear it ended somewhat positively! Best of luck to your DD in her future endeavors!

I went back to coaching after BB's career ended. It isn't the same although different isn't necessarily bad. I think of a lot of those stories BB told and some have changed me as a coach. I hope for the better. I appreciate you sharing your dd's journey. IMO, she has always been your dd and not your softball player. That makes the rest of your journey through life with her even more special.

Never did coach my DD. Coached with her for a lot of years. Still do at times.

I don't expect it to be the same. I've learned a lot in the last 6 years which was the last time I coached Boo. I think I've learned enough to be able to give back to the sport I enjoyed so much.

I missed my DD 1's last game because I had no idea it would be her last game.

Sad, but I am 1000 times happier about the direction her life has taken since then.

Having a great DD for the rest of your life is more than enough compensation

Back from Induction day. Very emotional time for the family but not as I'd expected. Seeing DD as happy as she was at the end of I-day put things in perspective for us and allowed us to keep it together. Go Navy! Beat Army!!!
