Mine went to travel in 8U and we don't have any regrets about it. She was so bored with rec ball. In my county rec ball is very, very low level. Her last 8U rec team half the team had never played before. I can't even imagine having kept her in rec for another year or even another 3 because some people also say 10U is too young for travel.

Parents have to decide what is best for their kids. Rec ball in our town is pretty weak even if she were to play up to 10U. Plus 10U "travel ball" here doesn't actually require that much travel. 95% of the tournaments are within an hour of where we live.

Here it's very possible to never drive farther away than an hour. The majority of our tournaments are close to home. We'll usually do one in the fall and one the spring that require a hotel stay, then a world series. But you don't even have to do that. Lots of teams stay totally local.

Another workout/tryout last night. My initial impression regarding these coaches seemed to hold true. They treated my DD as if she were part of the team and
I was pleased with their instruction. They really only fielded last night (with just a bit of side toss at the end for my DD) and unfortunately my DD seemed to catch a case of stone hands at SS...oh well.
They worked her out at 3B and LF as well which is good. The HC DD is a SS so...

To be honest, even though they invited her back to hit on Thurs, I am not confident that she will make this team. Even though she was the youngest one there,
she looked like she would be one of the better players on the team if she made it but they seem to be looking for a pitcher and they don't seem to be the type of coaches
to drop kids who are already on the team just because somebody better showed up.

They have open tryouts this coming Sunday and they said they would let us know either way sometime after that. We'll see I guess.

Surprisingly she made the team who had coaches that I really like so she will be playing with them. Probably not the best of the three teams who wanted
her to play with them but by far the best coaching, both in terms of instruction and attitude. Hopefully it is the right decision and she enjoys her initial
TB experience.
