If her hitting is momentum based - her timing is tuned to a certain speed of pitching. If faced with slower pitching her timing will be compromised. The way most coaches seem to combat this is to get the hitter to move up in the box.

And by momentum based swing I mean a swing that has to shift weight to the front side to launch.

Anyone else have this issue? Pitching speed has been slower and shes not hitting like she did prior to the HS season.

What gives??? :confused::confused:

The the same but different for my freshman DD. HS pitching was slow and some girls couldn't throw strikes. They were undefeated in league and 25-3 overall. She still hit .500. OB% was closer to .750, but would occasionally chase out of the zone just to swing the bat instead of getting another walk.

Travel ball has much better pitchers, she swung and missed once all weekend. It was against the best, biggest, fastest pitcher she faced. She loves good pitchers.

likely one or more of the belowreasons:

Competitive level you faced: In HS it is varied from game to game versus likely good & better every game
Competitive level you were: Were you at the top of the bottom - don't know. Know it isn't where travel is though.
Overuse: High school is every day. And this can be draining.
Atmosphere: This is the biggest difference for my DD... it is so quiet in travel. It can be an adjustment.
Intensity level: The 'big' high school game can be an intense 7 inning battle... travel you kinda cruise game to game as you have to conserve energy over a weekend. You can't always go for it 100% because you will eventually hit a wall.
Players you are facing have a year's worth of HS: All those players who were freshman going into HS are now a year older, stronger and more experienced. They got better.

My DD is regressing during the season. For her its a matter of not seeing quality pitching. Saturday is a school tourney and Sunday she gets to play travel. I am not sure who is more excited for Sunday, her or I. We are strong proponents of both school and travel, we are just excited to see the travel team again as its been a few weeks

Always spend the first 2-3 weeks of TB season getting rid of the stink of HS. The low level competition, poor to non-existent coaching, and total lack of accountability wreaks havoc on them.

Wrapped up lessons last night for the first real week of lessons. (Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday) One player hit 4 home runs over the weekend playing TB. Another, playing as a guest player, hit a home run her first pitch. Had my car worked on this morning. While sitting there a guy came over and introduced himself. His granddaughter played their first TB game in a 3 way friendly. On her team is yet another player of mine. She hit a home run and two doubles last night. So, I guess your mileage may vary.

Would have thought that you could also 'fix' your own car. :p

One time I was going to tune my car up. Should be easy enough. So, took all of the wires off, spark plug and distributor cap. Took them off all at once. Ever see fire shoot up from your carburetor?
