Team's philosophy: hey parents, don't talk stats or technique with the player because we don't want her focusing on stats or developing bad habits.

My philosophy: if it wasn't for the thousands of hours of work the player and I have done together to this point she wouldn't have made this team in the first place.

Ha!

Susie walks into the dugout after hitting a homerun.
Coach: Congrats Susie on banging that ball over the fence!
Susie: Thanks coach. That was 4th one this season. Me and my dad have been working on something and it seems to be working.
Coach: Susie, No talking stats or technique on this team!!! That's our job.

Just because my DD is own your team doesn't mean I agree or disagree with your technique. I will continue to discuss and work on my DD's technique and skills to continue to improve her STATS. I will sit out in the outfield and keep my mouth shut during the game but, the game will be discussed at some point.

This right here, except for...
I will quietly sit in the outfield until I see the 6th or 7th error in 1 game, then for some strange reason, it sounds like a lion roar erupting from my mouth...
And then all the mothers and small woodland creatures scamper off... :D

In all seriousness, I will teach, and talk stats to my DDs, all I want...

When coaches hold tryouts, you as the parent are interviewing them.

Sounds like you should find another team if you don't agree with the coach and their rules. Right or wrong the team rules are for everyone and are there for a reason.

There are plenty of parents that "know" what they are doing and over coach. How can we be sure they are the exception to the rule? Maybe they believe in antiquated techniques, or maybe they know the best techniques. The problem is that whichever parent they are, they think they know what is right and are not open to other points of view.

If your ideas on mechanics don't mesh, or if you feel the coach doesn't know what they are doing then I'd say that you've done a poor job as a parent selecting the best team for your child.

I have kept my DD's batting stats for every season that she has played since she was 14. I had noticed the summer before that there seemed to be a bad case of daddy-ball - even though DD was hitting the crap out of the ball and nearly always getting on base the daughter of the parent that computed the stats always had a significantly higher batting average than DD. So the next summer I started keeping her batting stats on a simple android app. Funny - DD's honestly (and harshly - I err on the side of error, not hit) kept stats were always different then the daddy-ball stats. But I only keep them for my kid. I have been asked by several parents to keep their kid's stats too - I just show them the app and tell them that it is easy to do it themselves. I am not interested in getting into arguments about someone else's stats - but I will defend my DD's...
