That's at the crux of most of the problems. Expectations not being met. Coaches have to be really careful in what they say during the tryout period.

Coach says, "We really like your DD and the way she fields the ground ball. Our depth at middle infield isn't the strongest, so DD will have a good chance of playing there if she can prove herself."

What the parent hears "DD will be our starting short stop for the entire season."

Agreed. Also, "we will play a strong A-level schedule" and then you never see a true A-level tournament. Or, "we will play showcases and help your DD begin the recruiting process" and then none of that ever happens.

Sometimes the coaches are honest and parents hear what they want to hear. Sometimes coaches say what parents want to hear to get them to commit. It definitely goes both ways.

What worked for me: tell them immediately after the last game of the season that you're moving on. Thank the coaches for the work they put in and ackowledge that DD is a better player because of them (even if you have to bite your tongue a little to not say what you really want to say, your DD probably still improved in some manner under the coach's direction). Then, be honest as to why you're leaving. Just like at a restaurant when you tell the server you didn't like the food, be respectful but honest. For us, it was easy, DD needed more playing time and wasn't going to get it with her old team. The previous coach made some offers to keep us but understood that my "I'll think about it" was probably a no, and respected my decision when I told him it was no. Hope this helps.

A new term I'm starting to use more and more..."Hissy-quit"

Don't do that.
Realized most of my last posts have been these long-winded opinions that are indicative of where my life is right now: too intense. This made me outright laugh and reminded me not take things quite so seriously. Thanks!
