Watched DDs team's game end on a homerun that was negated because a teammate touched the batter before crossing home plate. I'm not questioning the rule... but have any or many of you seen this enforced ? I could add a lot more context, but most of it is irrelevant.

Long story made short girl hits home run rounds third receives high five before touching home plate. At this particular event a trophy was given to girls hitting a home run. Yeah, that was awarded and ball retrieved. Minutes go by and the home plate umpire call hers out. Jeering ensues from the parents.

I don't think there is a rule against touching. Helping a runner isn't allowed. but high 5s on a homerun Ridiculous. What's the advantage that the offense gets from celebrating?

Happened to one of DD's teammates two years ago. Girl hit her first ever HR and some of girls were too exuberant and congratulated her before she touched home. The opposing coach came out and protested to the plate umpire. The umpire asked him multiple times if he really wanted the rule enforced, which he adamantly did. The Runner was called out and the run did not count. The coach still lost the game and now when we play his team we hold nothing back, last year we knocked them out of the ASA state tournament, run ruled in 5 innings. Got to love Karma.

Coaches can give high fives, etc, but teammates can't.

Remember the clip of the girl hitting a HR and hurting her knee rounding first? Players from the other team carried her around the bases because if her teammates touched her she's out.

I'm guessin' Santa gave that coach a lump of coal, or a dried up dog turd, for a present that year. :D

Not an expert on the rules, but have seen several college 3B coaches high 5 players rounding 3B after a HR...

See the discussion in the rules section, the runner can be touched as long as it is not a way to assist the runner. Hi Fives, handshakes, fist bumps, etc. don't assist the runner.

If her teammates assisted her she was out, but not if they touched her. With that blown out knee they would have had to assist her. Great show of sportsmanship.
