My 11 YO daughter took up softball a couple of years ago and last year had her first year at travel ball with a 2nd year 10U team. She did pretty well and ended up winning the teams batting title for most hits. She ended the season with 57 hits and hitting .504. She was pretty stoked and of course we were too. Entering her first three tournaments in our 1st year of 12U she's hitting .414 with 14 hits.

How do I manage the expectations of an 11 year old girl and her father (me) that she's not going to be crushing the ball every tournament and she may have some tournaments where she doesn't even get a hit.

Better pitching yes, Stronger girls, yes.....all legitimate and realistic reasons why she may not hit as well this year as last but where do you draw the line with pushing for practice. All seems pretty stupid to even ask as I write this but I want to know how some of you more experienced softball parents dealt with it.

Thanks for listening.

If she is hitting .500 or even .400 she is probably bit being challenged. Explain to her that the last and least important measure of softball success are statistics. Find ways to define success, set goals and tirelessly work toward them.
