Some may know I have been a member here for several years. Up to 6 months ago I expected my daughter Boo, would be playing for a Patriot league school or an Ivy, maybe UChicago or Tufts. This was all changed this week when she received her appointment to the USNA. She will be playing softball but not the NCAA kind and I am happy as a clam. I know Army has D1 softball but she didn't like Army. Must be something about the dress whites.

So Go Navy....Beat Army!

And thanks for the many people who have helped me make her a good SB player and better person.

Wow.

I assume you know what an incredible honor it is to get an appointment to Annapolis. Beautiful campus, too.

Best of luck to your DD in her journey as a midshipman and later as an officer in the USN. The bases are always in such horrible locations, like San Diego or Pearl Harbor.
Oh, and good luck with the softball as well.

Yes, you can do sports and school and Navy prep as well, in fact they expect it.
One of DS' rowing teammates at the Milwaukee School of Engineering was the head cadet at the NROTC program at UW Milwaukee.
The National Collegiate Championships were AFTER graduation, but the Navy was actually very helpful in arranging that guy's deployment so that he could participate in Nationals.
So, as soon as their plane landed in Milwaukee, the new officer packed up his car and drove to San Diego.

That's fabulous! I'm a USAFA '95 grad, myself. I think NCAA and club sports are very helpful for networking both at the academy and active duty, which is key for upward success. Best of luck in her Plebe year - don't internalize and treat it like a softball game - compete, and forget the bad stuff immediately afterward.

I do know how awesome it is. She was at Summer Seminar last year and has kept up with her squad. Most are still waiting to hear.
