In 1861 the floods were so bad there was a 6000 square mile lake formed in the Central Valley.

Within a year or two, the lake was completely dry, and hasn't been seen since.

The worst flooding in modern England ended the day I arrived on a business trip some years ago. Lots of lakes that I never saw again.

My next business trip to Cali will be on Stupid Sunday. (Landing in SFO). Let's see if that will break the flooding.

Different people have different powers over the weather. Every time my wife went to San Francisco, it snowed. I went with her once. Snow.

I'm guessing a lot of that water went underground into an aquifer.

They were pumping so much water in recent years due to the drought that the ground was sinking 2 inches per month in some areas - https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/aug/19/california-sinking-groundwater-pumped-drought

Looks like your new fishin' hole has pretty good seating. All kidding aside, I'm sure that water is rough now, but certainly a blessing overall. Droughts are no fun.

The odd part for us in SoCal is we weren't expecting it this year and we didn't get much the prior 2 years when we were supposed to get it.

That's how pretty much every field in Ohio will look like in March/April this year. Mild winters lead to very wet springs.

Glad to see Cali getting some real relief from the drought!

A lot of the water went into our man made lakes. Before California had dams the central valley was a swamp and to this day when it rains real hard, history repeats.

It amazes me that these underground rivers/aquifers have all this land floating on top of them. How does it do that? Kind of strange that the underground river holds dirt up but the rivers above ground carry dirt away! Weird!

My friends at the rally this weekend were telling me that not enough environmental regulations and fees caused the drought in CA. Luckly California's elected deities have the solution for you and me! California Is Now Trying Cloud Seeding To Beat the Drought

My DD 1 just bought her tickets for her summer volunteer work in a Tibetan village in northern India. She will be there during monsoon season. That is about 2 months straight of heavy rain, averaging 20-30 inches a month during the monsoons. In other words, just like California today.
