I've been told I have Softball OCD. Twice. Once by my wife and once by the wife of another dad (who also apparently has Softball OCD). Was a bit alarmed to hear it. Wondered if I need to go and see someone about this "problem".
It isn't about having OCD, it is about the excitement of watching my DD having the time of her life on the pitch, screaming, singing, hitting, pitching, playing, hi-5's. The packing of the cooler, the early mornings, the (sometimes) long drives - wondering if she packed her cleats. The incredible atmosphere at games, the team, the team's parents, the competitors, the snacks, the excitement, the sadness when we lose, the thrill when we win, and when we win by a run - in the last inning. I never thought I'd love a sport so much.
I have to accept I have Softball OCD. I can't help it. I love it because my DD loves it, lives it and is good at it.
Here's to you Softball OCD moms and dads.

So Cal
If you're here looking for help to rid yourself of your particular OCD issue, you've come to the wrong place. Really, really the wrong place.

Acceptance is probably the best path. It's not the cheapest path, however.

Sounds like you're just having fun.

I wouldn't call it OCD, which can be a real problem for people and is very unlike what you're describing here, but I'll just lighten up and say have fun while it lasts. Softball can be a great family activity.

OCD would be like me as a coach making sure each ball bucket had the same number of balls in it before leaving practice, or making sure each girl had the green sock on their left foot and the blue sock on the right foot, etc. Those little things.

It wasn't me.

Not here.
All I can say is wait for the 'with draw' it's worst. DD is playing in college, other than the games there isn't anything else to do but watch. Have a honey due list ready.

I think probably all of us that frequent this site have the same affliction. I am in full withdrawal mode and have been for quite a while. DD hasn't played a game since the end of August.
To the OP.....you did a great job of listing all the great things about the game. Someone once asked me why I like softball. Why I wanted to spend so much time traveling, and practicing and money, etc. I had to think about it for a minute, and all I could come up with as a response was..."I love everything about it." I fell in love with the game when my DD started playing as a 9 year old. She is now 16, almost 17, and it seems like yesterday. Best advise I can give anyone with a younger kid starting out (softball or any sport) TAKE MORE PICTURES AND VIDEOS.

Having given this a little more thought, I'm going to say that you're not the one with the problem.

Some people, myself included many times, don't always have the fun that we should with it. There are many things about travel ball that worry me, like whether DD will have a good game or tournament, or whether her new teammates will like her, whether the coach will try to change her swing, and on and on. All silly perhaps, but real. I like the travel and the practices and time spent w/ DD more than watching the games, which is too bad, I guess.

So if you're enjoying every minute of it, you don't need advice. You should give it.

There is a fine line there.I was on the wrong side of it for a while...always worrying about stuff like you said, then I decided to just be a dad that was there to enjoy the game. I got less involved with being a coach and just was dad.
