Your thread title also reminded me of a funny story. Back in first year 10u, DD had an obsession while playing short or second, of cleaning the dirt off of second base. After someone would slide into the base and get dirt all over it she had to brush it off. Between plays she would walk over and dust it off with her hands. We were constantly telling her to leave the base alone. One day after several tries of cleaning it off, "blue" calls time out. Walks over to second base and cleans it off with his brush.I mean really cleans it off lol. Calls DD over to inspect the base and gets her approval. Walks back over to his spot and calls play ball without missing a beat. Looks over to me and the wife and just smiles. Never will forget that one. Still give DD crap about that one.

There is a fine line there.I was on the wrong side of it for a while...always worrying about stuff like you said, then I decided to just be a dad that was there to enjoy the game. I got less involved with being a coach and just was dad.

When my DD made the move to TB, I thought I was going to be just a dad. I had visions of relaxing down the foul line with a cooler of frosty beverages. First game with the team, I got asked to help with pre-game warm-ups...then, with fielding practices...and batting practices... I didn't fight it. I love coaching.

Is it just me or do "Pitcher/Catcher's" dad seem to get the worst cases of Softball OCD? Many times I find myself gravitating towards the Dad's that suffer the same as I do and coincidently they are all father's of pitchers and catchers. All the care free, casual parents on DD's team arn't pitcher/catcher parents and at times I feel jealous. I tried to be the casual parent but I just can't get over my OCD

Don't fight it, embrace it! Not coincidentally, pitcher and catcher are the two positions that require the most time and effort to develop the necessary skills to be successful.

Having given this a little more thought, I'm going to say that you're not the one with the problem.

Some people, myself included many times, don't always have the fun that we should with it. There are many things about travel ball that worry me, like whether DD will have a good game or tournament, or whether her new teammates will like her, whether the coach will try to change her swing, and on and on. All silly perhaps, but real. I like the travel and the practices and time spent w/ DD more than watching the games, which is too bad, I guess.

So if you're enjoying every minute of it, you don't need advice. You should give it.

What a great post. I think that most of us get a little bit too caught up in worrying about everything at some point. It is a lot more fun if you just let all that go and enjoy the ride.

I think I would agree with this.

Ive got it also...I did promise my DD one thing when we made the move from rec to TB. I promised her that we would do everything we could to never take the fun out of the game she loves. If it ever became not fun we could always go back to rec and just play. She loves it and the more we're on the field the better as far as shes concerned (good news for me because I love it and dont have to push to get her to practice).

I only get to do it once and it is a ton of fun. I've had more fun with DD and sports than I have with anything else my entire life. It is going to be over before we know it. Embrace it and love every minute of it.

I definitely get more "excited" when DD pitches versus hitting. I try to explain to the other dads that what they experience when their daughter is up for that period they are hitting is what I go through in that entire period my DD pitches... much longer lived... I find, however, that I get more relaxed the better and more confident she gets.
