Ok, I starting to wonder if I am crazy (well, crazier than I am already aware of). My DD is 9 and as far as I can tell is a decent pitcher. She is on a pretty good 10u TB team as the #2 pitcher and I am one of the AC's. Recently two other teams have shown interest in her to come play for them and their coaches have expressed how impressed they are with her pitching. Maybe I am missing something, or maybe its because coaches are always harder on their own kids but I just dont see it yet. Yes, she is working hard and has shown good improvement over the last few months but I still dont see what they are seeing. She still struggles with consistency regularly. Anyone else see their DD differently than others do??

Not here.
I seem to be 'harder' on my DD and expect more out of her. I also see her more because we practice on our own a lot and know her areas of weaknesses. Those weaknesses my not be so 'glaring' during games and team practices. I'm also honest to DD about what I see during games & practices.

There are two types of softball parents.
97% see DD: .800 batting, 0.10 ERA, wears halo, and field everything clean, only needs to go to practice as an example to entire team
2.998%: she couldn't hit water if she fell out of a boat, can't catch if she was holding the ball to begin with, snails make it to 1st faster, "Will you just throw strikes already?"
.002: good hitter but as always needs to work, decent pitcher but needs to work on spin and accuracy, solid player but can't go without practice

I did say 2 types.... On purpose

Nope, not me. DD is slotted right where she should be on the best Team in the world.

DD is lucky enough to have 4 grandparents come to a lot of her games. Same play:

1) DD needs to gket on another team, they suck
2) DD needs to make that play

Jump to college for a minute, how many #2 pitchers would be #1 on another Team?

Yep. No one knows the details of my DD's mechanics and capabilities as well as I do.

She's the #2 on a pretty good travel team. Sounds like she's probably pretty good, then. Travel teams are always looking for pretty good pitchers. And they're always praising pitchers that they would like to get. I'm not sure what is unusual about it. I coached two years of 10U some time ago, and I had only one pitcher that wasn't subject to breaking down into a walk fest on any given start. So I definitely would have been interested in taking a look at anybody who described herself as ''the #2 starter on a pretty good team,'' especially if she had a supportive family helping her with her training.

That said, I can't be sure what you mean when you say a ''pretty good team.'' I've found that everybody who wins about 55 percent of their games think they're pretty good, not great. In North Carolina, where we have state rankings of all the 10U teams, there are teams ranked #20 and #98 who win about 55 percent of the time, and both think they are pretty good. But #20 plays a much harder schedule and is a helluva lot better than #98.

that's a good assessment :)
I would place myself in your .002% category, but think that is likely true of many pitcher's parents, no?
I couldn't imagine watching my DD in the circle without noticing where her mechanics were off with each pitch, or if she didn't have the control that she is capable of . . .
I could never be the 97% parent who blames every hit off my DD on field errors (although I have encountered a few parents who do that), or the 2.998% parent who would encourage the DD's pitching if they felt she couldn't throw a strike . . . (and I've met a couple of those too).
