ahh, so we've gone from complete lack of effort to tremendous potential. I liked your first and last posts, btw. In effect, we've gone from a serious slacker to a serious underachiever. The question then becomes why is she underachieving? Bad coach? Possible. More likely, though, is that she is uncoachable. Why? Well, it could be because of her attitude. Or it could be her parent(s) is/are uncoachable. It could be she doesn't want to play softball or maybe doesn't want to catch but someone isn't giving her that choice. I'm curious as to why she switched teams.
But, returning to your original question, I, as a coach, would have had no problem with you coming to me to help share in an obvious player/team problem. Maybe you didn't really know anything about softball but you had good rapport or experience with kids. Maybe you just wanted to let me know that you weren't here to judge but to find out my reasoning. I would think any coach would be open to experience- based suggestions. I may not implement them or I may modify them, but parent buy in is essential to a team's softball health. If it's well meant, constructive and can help the team, I'm all ears.

Potential and effort can be apples and oranges. The girl has a cannon and when she puts in effort, she can be an effective catcher. The pitcher catcher chemistry is so important, so when one doesn't feel that the other is trying their best, whether it means hitting spots or blocking balls, it can spell disaster for the team.

Regarding switching teams, she moved up in age while DD remains a second year 12u player.

Sounds like it worked out, though. Hopefully for all involved. Glad to hear.
