Hi there! I'm a new poster looking for some much needed advice regarding my girls. Bear with me as I try to get this typed out and hope it makes sense! :)
.
I have triplet girls all of whom play softball. They have been active in house league since they played Mite, so U10. All three tried out for the select team in Mite and we thought maybe one was going to make the team. The coaches did not want to make a decision against any of them so as a result none of them made the team. Fast forward to this year and one of the girls did indeed make the select team, U12. The extra coaching and practice time has been invaluable and she has really progressed. The other two still played house league and practiced outside of regular play/practice time.

Now is the time for Rep softball, or travel league, tryouts for U14. The one who made select has chosen to try out for the local rep team as well as a team outside of our area. Although there are no guarantees, it looks like she stands a good chance of making either team. The other two have decided that they want to try out as well, for the local league. Once again, it looks like they stand a good chance of making the local team. I know it's a big jump from house to rep however this is their decision. We have attended a few of the local U14 practices and they are on par with the other girls.

Here is my quandary: We feel that the out of town league has a stronger program. How do we handle this? Originally we had thought only one would try out but now we have all three wanting to, at least for the local league. We do not feel that that all three are strong enough for the out of town league. One definitely is and maybe a second one, but not all. All are indeed strong enough for the local one. Do we have them all try out for both? Just pick one league and go with that? Would we be penalizing our girl who is indeed stronger by confining her to the local travel league? Or do we back our stronger girl and say no to the other two? I am concerned how to handle the situation if one makes the out of town league and the other two make local. Or, if we have them all try out for the out of town league and two make it and my third girl makes the local league. I simply cannot split myself into two and be in both places at once.

My head is truly spinning and I want so much to do the right thing....

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank in advance!

I think you let them all try out for the teams they're interested and let the chips fall where they may. I don't think that most TB coaches would be afraid to take one and cut the other two (as opposed to feeling obligated to take all three). If your strongest DD makes the out of town league, then you get with the coach to discuss possible carpool situations with teammates who may live nearby. They are not a package deal, so get used to them having different activities and having to juggle. If it's not softball, it will be something else. I'm of the opinion that the strongest one should not be held back for the other two's sake, but I realize that logistics are not insignificant either. JMHO.

Let them tryout where they want and then figure out how to best handle whatever logistical issues may arise - no different than you've done every day since they were born. Wow, three girls the same age make for some interesting dynamics. Only 2/3 of mine were girls, but I can tell you that the hardest part IMO ended years ago when they began sleeping through the night. Well, now that I think about it, maybe the hardest time is the day that they all leave for college and you go from just trying to hang on to a wild 100 mph thrill ride to fighting over who gets to pet the dog. Enjoy the ride!

Let the best one make the out of town team but don't tell them you have triplets and then split playing time three ways. All girls are on the team and you save thousands of dollars. You're welcome....next question please.

That assumes they are identical. Odds are they're not (identical triplets are exceedingly rare). Oh well!

One of our local teams has a set of identical triplets. This was 8U (not sure if they're 06 or 07). They're good players and so cute too. Anyway.

Not a bad idea since 2 are indeed identical! The 3rd one, not so much! ;)
