My DD plays for a 16u travel team and was invited by our 18u gold coach/organization founder to play with his team at Ronald McDonald tournament. DD pitched several games and was winning pitcher in the championship game. The problem I have is gold coach does not like his pitchers batting in the game and I understand he can't replace them if they get hurt as easily as you could a position player but my DD wants to hit and she is a good hitter. Funny thing about it is our gold coach didn't even know she was a good hitter until Sunday when DD cranked a home run out of the park off his star gold pitcher. The only comment he made to DD as she was rounding the bases was S@#t your a pitcher.
I'm leaning towards finding a new team and moving my DD, but would like to hear some opinions from you guys.
Thanks in advance for your comments

Pros:
Organization has many contacts with colleges and does an excellent job of exposing players to them.
DD team is very talented and she gets lots of playing time

Cons:
Daughter will not get to hit when she reaches the gold level a year from now.

If you're happy with the team this year, why would you change now because of next year? Seems like you're in a good situation, especially in an org that calls players up to showcase them.

I wouldn't leave unless I was sure it was a better opportunity.

In your face
Probably a couple of factors.........

Either he is gun shy, one or more of his previous pitchers has gotten hurt in the past.
Being a Gold team he probably enters a good number of exposures where he is trying to get a pitcher noticed for her pitching and uses a DH, so he might sell the DH as a hitter.
He hasn't had much luck with pitcher's who are good hitters.
He may not know your DD well enough to know she CAN hit.

Either way, just talk to the guy. Find out his intentions and relay your concerns and needs to him.

It's a great organization and gold coach works hard to promote his players and his track record speaks for itself with number of girls that have went on to play in college. My DD is only 14 and to get asked to play with his gold team was an honor and we didn't expect to play much. Only reason I'm considering a change is because DD wants to hit. Your right about him not being around DD enough to know if she can hit or not. Maybe he will let her hit if she's proves to be a good hitter. At least let her hit when she pitches

lol...DD is not Ricketts but she is a solid hitter. I would think if your a good enough hitter then it shouldn't matter if your a pitcher or not.

It depends how importing hitting is to DD. Some pitchers hit for themselves, some rarely if ever do. It's up to you and her to weigh the pros and cons and decide what you want to do.

Sort of alarms me that coach was suprised that a pitcher could be his best hitter too.... This is almost all the time the case.

The more areas of talent a kid can offer a college team increases her chances of getting a good scholarship. I would talk to the coach and let him/her know of your concerns.

DD pitches, hits and plays first, some offers she got were for her hitting and some for pitching only, so she received more offers due to having more than one specialty.

Many times a pitcher is the best hitter on a team due to her understanding of the pitches and how they break.

We go to as many college camps as possible and most of the coaches say they want to recruit athletes who can play multiple positions. It makes them more valuable to them with limited scholarships to give out. I might be making a bigger deal out of this than it is but DD can hit and I don't want someone to take that away from her. She has hit 12 out of the park this year.
