Have you spoken to this coach about this? He might have a different attitude towards a pitcher who can actually hit. And he might have a different opinion if he thinks its something that you will go to a different org over.

No I haven't talked to him about it yet, but he knows what she has done this year. I've talked to several other coaches within the organization and they all say the same thing...pitchers only hit for him. There a lot of good organizations out there we could play but we like our current team a lot it's just the future that has me worried. Maybe by the time we get to his team he will give her a chance to hit some, if not we will probably go somewhere else

In HS ball, my DD's head coach does not like for pitchers to bat, so he designates the pitcher as the flex. Does not bother me since my DD's pitching is a lot better than her batting. It does however, make me wonder if I am wasting my time and money when my DD takes batting lesson!

beyond the fences
talk to the coach and get back to us. generally speaking pitchers are very athletic and sometimes
are one of the best hitters on the team.

In D1 schools it is unlikely that they will hit much if they are a dominant
pitcher on scholarship. Coach will have a lot of explaining to do if she gets drilled and is injured
and cannot pitch for several games/week or longer

I do understand the concept of not hitting in college if you are a dominant pitcher, but right now I'm trying to get a scholarship for my DD and I need her doing everything she can

If your DD is a pitcher, that will more than likely be her best chance at a scholarship unless she has a HUGE bat!

I have seen this song and dance before.

Most top level coaches both travel and high school RESIST allowing the pitcher to hit on a regular basis.

UNLESS you are a top notch hitter. It takes YOU to convince the coaches of that.

You have plenty of LEVERAGE to make it happen. It is up to you to use it, and make it work for you!!!

If it means changing teams, so be it. Getting your DD to the plate is much more important than anything else
If I had a DD who pitched and racked up 12 HR's in a calender travel year, I simply would not play for a team that would not allow her a full turn at the plate. That includes DH or other when DD is not pitching.

Welcome to high level travel, my friend. You will learn to play HARDBALL, or sit steaming on the sidelines while lesser hitters are given the chance to hit, who are not as good as yours.

I am talking GONE next weekend. You have to rid yourself of this "we really like ..... crap .... NO YOU DON't .... they are not letting DD HIT"

This from a hitters dad. Don't let my DD hit ... I am gone ... period. They (coaches) learn quickly, if your DD is what she says she is.

Above all, don't worry. Show them your "soft-balls", put your money where your mouth is ... and soon enough, they will be asking for you back ... on your terms.

The PERFORMANCE of your DD determines 90% of your DD's future. Don't listen otherwise. My DD does what she wants. Drives coaches crazy. But as long as she can stand in front of 65 mph fire-ballers, see the fear in their eyes, and go deep for game winners, coaches in college continue to e-mail her.

Well the decision might have gotten easier to make today. We've been told DD head coach is stepping down and taking his DD to another team. At least it's the off season and we have time to figure out what to do next spring. DD has been invited to a couple tryouts and we are going to go see what they have to offer.
I wanted to thank everyone for responses.

The girls only have a few years of travel ball to make a lifetime of memories. I would think she would want hitting to be in those memories.

As a coach I have seen a lot of pitchers who let their performance at the plate affect their pitching. They strike out and get down on themselves and then take that negative vibe to the circle the next inning. Not all girls do this, but enough do it for coaches to guard against it.

I have also seen some high level TB coaches with a "win at all cost" mentality (especially at Nationals), who I would not put it past "plunking" an opposing pitcher to see if they can rattle her or knock her out of the game. This is rare, but you are kidding yourself if you do not think it is a possibility.

Most sanctions allow for a pinch runner for your pitcher or catcher, but they still have to run the bases after they hit the ball. If you have an ACE pitcher, do you really want her legging out a double and sliding into the bag at 2nd? How many coaches would wake up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night if the lost their ACE over a fluke accident while batting.
