DD had a good day today at a high-level tournament. One of the coaches from a team that passed her over walked by and I overheard him say "We should have taken that girl."

Of course, what he really meant was "I wish somehow we could have known she was capable of this even though she showed no evidence of it at her tryout.". ;-) Still, a very nice thing to hear.

I love moments like that. Its even better when you stomp the sh@# out of the team that passed on your DD.

Something similar after tryouts. Coach txt me and asked why DD chose another team over his. He said for some reason he kept missing out on the really good ones.

I love when that happens.
We had something similar happen last weekend. The coach of another team (that turned my DD down because he said she was too small) stood there with his mouth open when my 80 lb 13 year old put one over his 3rd baseman's head and past his left fielder who he moved in and knocked in 2 runs.
I walked by him after that game and heard him mutter "should have left the outfield where she was, never thought she could hit that far". Funny thing is she consistently hit it that far during tryouts.

GG,

That certainly is a good feeling! Enjoy it.

Had a little one like that myself yesterday. DD is truly becoming a triple threat hitter. She is 4'11" and 98lbs conversion to hit lefty. After a couple of nice lead off slaps the other team closed the left side and middle and pulled in the OF some too. She read that defensive change and hit away with a nice shot over the CF head for a triple. All that with a broken finger too.

Life is always good and sometimes we are remembered of that in real time!

I had one this weekend too. My DD is short and a lefty so when she came up to bat the other coach was saying stuff like "Move in. She can't hit". First at bat, with runners on 2B and 3B with our power hitter behind her I call for a bunt and she lays down the perfect bunt. Bases loaded, power hitter comes up for a bases clearing shot into the outfield. Next at bat she slaps one down the 3B line, right where I called it. And this is at the 8U level.

Yeah coach, this girl can't hit. She can hit, bunt, and slap.

It does feel good doesn't it!

In defense of coaches everywhere, it is VERY difficult to have tryouts with 40+ players and pick a team of 12 and always get it right. There are a lot of girls we "wished" we had taken over the years, and there are some that we wished we had passed on......

I wish I lived in your area! I couldn't get 40 girls out to a tryout in this area if I was giving away free iPads!

Exactly why I rephrased his statement, no way she was going to make this team or any other based on how she looked at tryouts.
