This year,

Celiac took about 6 months to figure out, migraines took a month to figure out, broken toe took a week to figure out and doctor called us idiots because we still let her play, now she had an MRI on her foot Saturday and we will see Wednesday how long she gets to sit around.

That is the complaining, she had a good year at SB between all that.

Pitched her first complete game shutout, she pitched 2 this year. (Only 2 games her JV MS Team won.) Thank you defense. Guest played for the 1st time, with an older TB age group, and did great. A lot of good sports things happened this year even though it seems like she should never leave home and live in a bubble.

She just got a new bat, we are waiting to see what doctor says before she test drives it. We have already canceled her lessons until next year.

Just kind of whining. She wants to practice and get better but her health has held her back all year and it seems like into next year.

Best of luck next year. Hope all of the health stuff works itself out and your DD gets to play as much and as often as she likes.

Don't feel too bad about the Doctor calling you an idiot. Thought our Dr. was going to call Children Services on me as he was telling us that DD #2 had a broken ankle and wanted to know how long it had been bothering her. I told him about 4-5 weeks and he just gave me one of those looks. She had been playing MS ball all that time and actually talked the Dr. into waiting another 2 weeks for the cast so she could finish the school season.

I did feel like a jerk though. We went for ice cream when we left the Dr.'s office.

Kind of funny is DD is going to VB practice tonight.

Doctor is going to tell us what to do on Wednesday.

I am thinking DD will be in a boot for a couple months or need surgery and be out most of next year.

Either way she is done for this year, she just will not admit it yet.

MRI shows no injury.

I guess she gets to keep limping around.

I tried to sign her up for pitching lessons but her foot is bothering her so she wants to wait, which is fine.

We do not know what we are going to do.

Gosh this is a new perspective. Thanks for making me think. It is easy to complain about things, then when I think how much you guys have worked and are being held back by and injury. I will send good thoughts your way.

I know that feeling well. Two years ago the older DD had pains in her hip. Told her it was growing pains, muscle pains whatever. Took her to the dr just to be sure and they didn't see or feel anything wrong. Two weeks later it is getting worse so back to the dr we go. DD can't walk after dr moves her around so she sends her to a specialist that same morning. Get a call from then wife to say DD is having surgery at 4 that evening. She had a slipped capital femoral epiphysis and now has an 8" pin in her hip.

Fast forward 3 months from that surgery date which puts us in January. Younger DD has been complaining about shoulder pain when she pitches. We took a look at her mechanics and nothing stood out that looked like it would be hurting her where she said she was hurting. She went to dr for a check up. Looks like she may have scoliosis. Ok. Took her to the recommended specialist her puts her in a brace even though typically her curve would have gone to surgery. We tried the brace thing but it wasn't working out so we sought a second opinion. This was over the course of a year or so. Well, the new xrays show her curves are at 62 degrees on the top and 52 on the bottom. We schedule surgery 3 months from that date. Preop surgery appt comes and her back is now at 71 degrees and some big number on the bottom. Spinal fusion was a success and luckily they didn't have to go down as far as they thought they would. She still lost quite a bit of her range of motion. But everyone is on the mend and back on the fields.

I feel your pain and can definitely empathize with you. Hopefully things will go well and she will heal up quickly.

Slappers, I wish your DDs continued healthy recovery. It says something about them (and you) that they have faced such serious health challenges and are back playing. Thank you for sharing their story with us,
