DD’s last JV game is Monday. The varsity Team has an open roster position and they asked her if she wanted to join the Team and go to regionals with them. HC told her that there was almost no chance she will get into a game but that she had to be ready just in case. Of course DD said heck yes.

She has played with 1 player, same age, for years on the same Teams. This other player made varsity while DD played JV. It is the first time they have not played on the same Team. I think it came down to numbers, basically if you showed up you made a Team, so they needed to balance things a little bit. Sickly DD could pitch while this other player is done pitching for the year and JV needed, and still does, a pitcher so it made sense that DD stayed in JV.

DD played, batted and pitched as much as she wanted in games. This other player very seldom saw the field but she practiced with better players/ pitching. I think I like DD’s experience better even though I think this other player is probably better than DD in the short term practicing with better players. We will see next week.

DD is going to have trouble catching up to the speed of the game, HC knows that but is offering her a chance so she knows what she is in for next year.

All in all another good year. Did I mention that DD pitched 2 complete game shutouts this year? If you ever saw my DD pitching you would be scratching your head too. I should post a video, you would get a laugh out of it and say what?

Edit:

She will be the smallest player on the varsity team. I was worried about it last year and they have never cared about her size.

I didn’t want to start a new thread so I am bring this back to life since it was so popular.

DD’s MS Varsity Team was supposed to be 1 and done, season over enjoying 1 game on the bench.

The players apparently have other ideas, they won 3 games in a row knocking off the #1 seed tonight. You lose you are out so cya #1. They have been the lower seeded team all 3 games and will be every other game they play.

DD has been a very, very small part of every game which the coaches did not or do not need to do. She has hit once and PR a handful of times. She has been in every game. With losing one you are done that is hard for a coach to do, did I mention I like DD’s coaches?

She was also asked tonight to guest play for a TB Team this weekend, it should be fun.

Her season was supposed to end a week and a ½ ago, now it is not ending.

Been there with my DD in HS. They were middle of the pack in the conference all season long. They peaked at the end of the season and won 8 straight games to with the State title. Everyone was looking passed them all through the playoffs.

It was a great run.

The #1 Team we were playing stopped the game to replace 2nd because she made an error, called her to the dugout and put another player in. It took a few minutes. They did the same thing 2 innings later.

I am glad DD does not play for some of these coaches.

Getting circle time on the JV team is much better than "bench time" on Varsity, plus when the JV season is over a lot of girls can move up to Varsity so they can continue practicing!

James,
We play school ball in the spring here. For those of you playing school ball at this time of year, as I see some other states do, I have some questions. How does this affect or work out with your travel/tournament team? How early do you start school if they are already playing their last JV game on 9/9? Our school district's first day of school was 8/27 this year. Do they start playing before your school year begins?

They start a couple weeks before school starts. Last year was her first year in MS and because of SB she knew some of her teachers and meet some new friends before school even started. Great experience for her. 2nd year was OK, first year was great!

JV and Varsity are a little bit different.

It is school ball so if they have practice or a game it is right after school so for practices DD is home before 4:30, games 6:30. We have a lot of players that play both school ball and TB or Rec. Those practices or games usually do not start until 6:00 or after.

The difference between varsity and JV is that varsity has some weekend tourneys, not many, and I assume the school takes priority. Their schedule is set weeks in advance so there are no surprises.

To make matter worse one team got to play 4 games which is pretty standard, but it was determined before play that the fourth game did not matter. I've never seen it done before play started. Has anyone ever seen that before?
