DD was temporarily team less this fall. Didn't want to play TB and our rec league pulled some shenanigans that prevented all the 2002's from playing up to 12U this fall. We found a team in the neighboring community of Temecula (a serious hotbed of softball talent and far more competitive than our little country league). DD has rocked the practices so far and looks to be one of the better players with a team filled with girls a year older. The first game is Saturday. My whole thing about not wanting her to play a 5th season of 10U was that she would not be challenged and would just mail it in. The minute she saw girls that looked like they might be better than her- her swings got faster, the footwork improved and the throws got hard. I caught her eyeballing one of the pitchers as they warmed up and I could read her mind.... looks like she has some competitive fire after all. The team is great, the girls can play and the coaches are awesome. It's going to be tough to go back to our rec league after this. all is well that ends well.

Very nice! Things work out how they are supposed to whether we agree or understand them (or not)

:-D Yep, nothing like some competition to bring out that fire and desire for kids--at least the ones who really want to play softball as opposed to using it as a fun social activity.

I wonder what the percentage of girls who try tb and then happily go back to rec is? I'd bet it's pretty low, but I really don't know.

More bragging-It is what I do best.

DD picked up with the 12U 01 team in her sister's org for a friendly. We are at the point of going through winter tryouts and deciding if she is ready to go from REC to an 02 TB team. We were really there to check out the team our org was playing against because DD has a tryout with them coming up, but the coach said to bring her uniform and he would pop her in. He is super cool and even though he doesn't think she is ready to join up with his 01 squad, is helping us find the best fit for her.

Anyway-she goes 3 for 5, gets to play 1st base for an entire game, no errors, saves a ball that was almost in the dirt from SS for the out. Catches a tough popup and turns the double play to second when the runner is caught off guard by her making the catch. Fields a hard grounder for the out. Then she gets the surprise that she is pitching an inning. Her first inning of 12U pitching ever.

Strikes out the first two and gets the third out on a popup to SS.

We crushed both teams in the games she played and they were both 02s. So I think she is ready.

P.S.- She did go down looking in one AB and decided that running on anything with 2 outs is somehow not the best base running strategy so it wasn't perfect but it was pretty darn good.
