My daughter just aged out of her 14u team and now has been asked to play for a 16u-18u showcase team. The coaches are great and I know my DD is excited about playing up. She is 15 years old and I know this is a big commitment between time and money since the coach wants to go to nationals and colorado ,utah ect .I was wondering if I should have second thoughts and just put her on a local 16u travel team and wait a year or so before we make this commitment. Is there anyone who has done this already at this age group who can tell me if they have had a positive experience.

If she can compete, you can afford and she wants it, do it. If she would have more fun close to home and would never want to go far from home for college, then probably not.

Why do you think 15 YOA is "young"? Girls start signing LOIs (letter of intents) the summer before their senior year of HS. Coaches start making their short lists one or two years before that. I don't know what grade your DD will be in, but the clock is ticking.

If your DD hopes to play college ball, she better make the jump now or she can forget it.

State of Confusion
If shes playing 16U shes not playing up. Theres nothing wrong with that, but if she wants to play collegiate she should go to Fireworks, ASA nationals, etc to have the best chance of being in front of coaches she wants to play for. The focus IS on 16U recruiting.

18U, I wouldnt worry about too much unless it is an 18Gold team. But not many 15 yr olds will play on a legitimate Gold team, they are loaded with top HS seniors (already committed) and college freshmen that already play college ball.
