Shooting pains both up and down make it sound like a nerve. Your "funny bone" is where the ulnar nerve is more exposed to contact. Sounds like you go hammered right there and have a bruised nerve. But yes see a doctor to get a real diagnosis. If your nerve is injured you need to rest, wearing braces will do nothing.

I'm going to repost a reply I had on another board on here as a update on my elbow.

I just got out of the walk-in clinic so I figured I'd update you guys.

The doctor isn't 100% sure what is going on with my injured left elbow. The doctor said that he thinks that my elbow is just severely bruised on the inside and swollen that it's pressing up against nerves in there causing the pain I'm experiencing. But he didn't rule out that I possibly fractured my elbow either. So I'm being referred to a orthopedic specialist in Philadelphia who is supposed to be one of the best in her field. I go to see her on Wednesday. In the meantime, I'm told that I can play...but I can only play a limited amount of innings and that he doesn't want me batting. He also gave me a cortisone injection in my elbow saying that it should help bring down some of the swelling and dull pain to the point that I shouldn't feel it much.

Personally, I wasn't too enamored by the doctor I had at the clinic. I would have rather went to my regular doctor...but she had no openings to see me today. Plus the injury wasn't something I needed to go to the ER for anyway. We will have to wait until Wednesday and see what the orthopedist has to say.

Whoa. Is the specialist "his guy"? I might seek someone else. An injection is not something to be done lightly. You can research that online. Now that it's done I would get advice before playing. Playing with an injection is not necessarily a bright idea IMO. It can mask pain that you should be paying attention to.

Sorry I didn't get back to you last night. We went to Philadelphia to watch the Phillies play the Reds last night and then I went to bed when we got home. Anyways, my mom heard about what happened with the doctor yesterday and she wasn't happy my doctor wouldn't see me because their schedule was full. She called them and talked to my doctor and she thinks I should have a second opinion before going to see the specialist. She also thought that a cortisone injection was a little too extreme at this point and felt I should have been placed on prescription stregnth motrin instead of being given an injection. But she did agree that the specialist I was referred to is really good and she would have referred me to her to look at my elbow. She said that I should not play today in our game until I'm seen by another doctor. I'm going to talk to coach and say to her that my doctor says I should not play.
