Will this drill work without resistance?

Came across this gem of an agility drill last night. Think it will be effective nonetheless without the resistance? We don't have any shackles or resistance bands as our funds are limited. Really like the timed tennis ball grab. My DH doesn't seem to think it will be worth doing without the resistance.

Yes, absolutely. The resistance adds the element of trying to overcome a resistance but doesn't teach speed per say, it is more about learning how to use your whole body. The benefits of no-resistance will be to teach your body to move as fast as possible which is beneficial.

Think of swinging a heavier bat in training or using weighted balls - same idea.
