It's raining a bit here today. However, the smell of softball is strong and I am hungry for some serious ball.

With that said, once the season starts or is about to start, we, coaches tend to prioritize what we work on. In softball, that means working on hitting, team defense, pitching, etc. Basically, the stuff that matters the most on the field.

In the world there's no unlimited supply of time, we dedicate the time available to things that matters most.

However, in the process, we tend to forget the small stuff that also matters. In practice today...

Did you worked on the mental game?
Did you do speed and agility drills?
Have you integrated a few strength and power exercises?

I could keep going but you get the idea. You're probably thinking: "Yes, I know that stuff is important but I only got 2 hours to do everything. While I'd like to integrate that stuff, i just have no time".

You're thinking incorrectly. Instead, you should be thinking, how can i integrate the small stuff while dedicating the bulk of my practice to the big stuff (hitting, team defense, etc.)?

Look for solutions, NOT excuses!

The mental part can easily be integrated into hitting or team defense drills. In fact, any mental work is most effective when done in a setting that is as close as possible to game situations. Just be creative.

Speed, agility, strength and power can be worked as part of an extended warm-up or using at the end of practice. No need to do a 60-minute workout but if you can spare 10-20 minutes, you will see a MAJOR difference.

So, don't come up for excuses and be creative!

Coach Marc ;-)

P.S. If you want to integrate a quick softball-specific workout to your regular practices, Softball Team Training is the perfect solution for you. It's a done-for-you workout that you can easily implement in your regular practices with almost no equipment needed. That workout will make your team run faster, throw harder, hit with more power and mentally tougher!
