I'm right here.
As embarrassing as it sounds my daughter just does not have good running form. When she runs or steals a base the folks in the bleachers cover their face with their hands to hold back laughter. It's painful to watch. As George Costanza once said...."It's more like a full-body dry heave set to music".

I feel bad for her too because she's a smart and aggressive runner with good sliding technique. The poor thing thinks she's fast too, (which isn't helping the matter) lol. But to watch her is just....Anyhow...are there any videos or instructions one might recommend that help teach proper running form?

Thanks,

T

My suggestion would be to consult a track coach. I know this may sound unconventional but if you want her to be a better runner, ask those who's job it is to teach running. As a wrestling coach, I wanted my kids in '800 meter' type conditioning. I went to the track coach and asked him for some workouts which he gladly gave me. If running is the issue, consult the runners.

Thanks for asking....no not yet. We still have a crap load of snow and haven't had temps above 30 for who knows how long; so we're dealing with cabin fever right now which means I need to be careful with what we choose to work on...right now running is not the top priority. We've been spending most of our time on pitching & hitting....& splitting firewood. Once the weather breaks and we start spending some time at the field we'll work on it. But nice of you to ask.

I'm in a similar situation, my DD stops her feet into the ground and her arms go across her body. She gives 100% but to much wasted energy. This week starts some basic running form work, thanks for any info u guys can share.

There are a couple of good documents by Cheryl Coker. They say part 1&2 of 3 parts, but I never found the third. Basics I get out of it...knees up, toes up, drive the elbows back (don't propel the arms forward). I also like to focus on...getting up to speed in the first 5 steps (not looking at the play), efficiency in the arms (using them fully, generating momentum in line with where you are going), not running too upright.

Our technique coach in HS taught us to think of driving a nail into a board behind you, arms at 90 deg. I've been teaching this to my girls and it helps a lot with the wasted side to side motion of the upper body. They can practice it standing still, anywhere at all.

I like this. My 10yo DD's arms flail all over the place when she runs. I don't think that her 4'-10" lean frame is helped by her size 8-1/2 flippers, either. Man, I hope she grows into her feet soon.
