Does anyone know of any drills or if it is even possible to train your fast twitch muscles, to be faster.I know if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball
but thats it for my training on the subject

Learn to embrace it, don't dodge it. Catch it, or deflect it with the bat... here is a method to teach this. Its the one in the middle, DD using the glove.
Try this drill with the girl catching the ball in her right hand. See if that makes a difference.

I just think Emily has a slow swing when she is batting. I'm not saying she has a bad swing, but just not a fast swing. I have heard people talk about slow twitch muscles and fast twitch muscles and wondered if there is away to train them to be faster, or if that is what god gave you is what you get.
I like that... I have had my buddy looking for me a Left hand handed glove at garage sales all summer. That batting glove she is using is really a padded glove for catching.... I do have her block balls with it instead of her catching with the glove. I also teach to catch the ball with the bat... but that is done on the tennis court. and with real eggs in the kitchen.Try this drill with the girl catching the ball in her right hand. See if that makes a difference.

Sorry not trying to hijack your thread, I thought you were talking about getting out of the way of a pitch, with the wrench illustration. I do that with teaching bunting ect... It might all be related though... It she carry's more confidence, about what to do when evading a bad pitch, it might cause the twitch speed to improve. I have DD mirror the pitchers leap foot, by raising her's at the same time. She can also disrupt the pitchers timing by making her aware she is syncing with her, then putting in an early lift, just like you do a fake bunt, when she needs a ball...

My 11 year old daughter was told she needed to work on her fast twitch muscles after a tryout this fall. I had never heard of that so I Googled it. For my daughter, it was for running from home to 1st because 3.6 seconds was slow. On the other hand, her home to home time was one of the fastest. I have a friend who trains runners so I'm going to give her a call to find out what she recommends. Has anyone ever noticed when some girls who were once fast have a growth spurt or hit puberty that they get a little slower? My daughter has always been fast but this year has slowed some. She grew 5 inches and went from a size 5 shoe to a size 8 all within 1 year. Just wondering if that could effect her speed. Anyways, I did a quick Google about bat speed and most sites suggested conditioning and strength training, particularly the core. Apparently building muscles helps to develop the fast twitch muscles. Another site recommended isometrics. Curious to hear what others know or find.

Light bats, broom stick, pvc will work fast twitch. I have a dozen foam practice golf balls from the W and hit the with a 33" piece of 1/2 pvc that has a 4 inch piece of 1 inch pvc taped at the sweet spot. We will hit those in the yard, but it always turns ugly as dd(s) and I work more at trying to curve the balls as much as possible. We do hit with the pvc indoors during the winter for an equal amount of swings as a 30 oz bat. (heavy then light workout).

Can she swing the bat faster if she wants too, like when the ball is on a tee. If you tell her to swing as fast as possible, what happens. if she can swing it faster, then your problem isn't fast twitch muscle.
