I don't think he struck out once in a travel baseball season. He hit somewhere in the neighborhood of 600 playing travel ball. If he went 2 for 4 his average went down. On top of that, if a ball popped out of his mit, he had no problem bare handing it in air and making the throw.

it was the best training of hand eye coordination ever. Plus it unnerved the 13 year olds on the other team to have the opponents short stop juggling 3 balls behind his back, or 5 balls in front.

He recently organized his University Ping Pong club, its a great game.
I don't doubt this for one second. My best hitting seemed coincident with when I sharpest on the ping pong table. The hockey goalie I referenced earlier pretty much said the same thing and although we never said anything, I think he eventually realized that we used to let him win before big games because we were loyal hockey fans, eh!

Juggling is very cool and a great way to pass the time (and impress the lassies) during doubleheader downtime!

thanks for the great responses. I think I'll give it a shot. Plus it shoud be a fun way to spend time with DD. She does play third and if she has a weakness it's her inability to move to her left to cut balls off. Well, that was a little harsh. Not "inability." Poor choice of words. But she could stand to be quicker.

We do have a ping pong table and she's actually very good. Not as good as her old man, but then again I'm willing to take on all comers.

Heck you can use a tennis racket or boat oar, whatever makes you feel more comfortable.

so in the event of a tie, I propose we duke it out by second-guessing the coaches, announcers, umpires, official scorers, gate attendants and whoever else gets TV time at next year's WCWS. We'll do it on-line here and let the DFP user kingdom diplomatically vote to determine that I am the clear winner.
I accept, could get very interesting with two opinions. ( ex catcher vs ex pitcher ) Like my friend the Rock would say, "make sure you're ready to go one on one................with the great one".

Absolutely! Racket Ball, ping pong, juggling and tennis are great for them in soooo many ways. Eye-hand coordination and tracking for hitting is benefited greatly imo.

I like racquetball for agility and reflex training. I like it even more for pitchers, since the racquetball court is a good way to practice pitching solo. Most parks around here have several racquetball courts, so no gym membership is needed. Ball, glove, piece of chalk to draw a strike zone, no catcher necessary. No one (aka DAD) to pester and sideline coach, just the pitcher and a wall, getting better.
