Anybody know if middle school athletes can practice with the high school team (in Indiana) ? I'm aware they can't play. Options around here seem a little bleak-trying to get creative.

Yes I believe they can. I too live in IN and have a 8th grader. Middle school is not sanctioned by the state so it's more like a pickup team. The HS coach can not coach any player until I believe the middle of February but he can have someone else non coach lead practice. Most teams condition and ours do it together. Once the official practice day arrives they will split up.

Rule here in IL. Is same but no one cared for the MS players. We played in a facility with 5 fields ans so players just walked from MS practice to another Team's practice.

Or they would take off game uniform and go to practice for team so the other coaches and parents knew too.

Not sure if they played in games for thier team.

also not sure what penalty is if someone does care. If we needed to foefieght games they played we would not care.

If they became ineligible that would be a problem.

If its before the official start of season date, and the practice is in an "open gym" format... yes
Once the season starts, no-one is permitted to participate that isn't on the official roster.

In Illinois, players who aren't in high school may not practice with the high school team. According to the rules (looking at them now), there are four by-laws that factor into it (3.011, 3.051, 3.053, 3.132).
