Runners on the corners, 2 out. Line drive to RF. Right fielder drops it but picks it up and gets the force out at 2B. Runner on 3rd crossed the plate before the out at 2b. Does the run count?

I believe the run doesn't count, as its a force out, no different if the ball was hit in the infield and the runner crossed the plate before the force out was recorded, only because its a force out the run does not count. Am I correct?

Correct. As I remember it, "Any force out that would constitute the 3rd out of an inning would invalidate any run scored during the play, even if said run scored before the final out was recorded.

You are correct, the run does not count. I bet there is a 98.2% chance the runner on 1B held up since it was a line drive, which with 2 outs, is a base running blunder. Softball IQ is important and can cost your teams games!

It is not a timing play, the run does not count.

I had a very similar play this past summer, but we ended up tagging the runner out at 2nd. Umpires told me the run counted because we did not have a force at 2nd, she was tagged. Upon my protest, their call was reversed and the run did not count.

Something that many are not aware of, it is still a force play even if you tag the runner.

I tried, unsuccessfully, to explain this to the umpires. It was then that I asked them if that was their interpretation before protesting. The base umpire actually started to argue with the UIC. I just shook my head and walked away, thinking 'and this is why I rarely play U-trip.'
