what does "protesting" a game realistically achieve?

I don't like the $$$ to have to protest a game but I understand why they do it. To many coaches don't know enough about a the rules and the application of the rules. Would be constant delays for no valid reason in a lot of cases. Did have PU call an odd obscure rule on us one game that gave the other team a run. Short conversation and I looked and said " I've never heard of that rule but I'll assume ur correct since your the ump". Now the best part we won the game and i was sitting watching another game and she comes up sits down beside me "I talked to the TD and the rule is correct but I mis applied it, since you won no harm but TD said you would have been refunded some $ if it had cost you the game". First I appreciated her following up on her own and with td. When I got home and looked it up she was correct on the rule and her mis application of it. So not all umps and TD's are butts.

Didn't want to start a new protest thread. We had an unusual fall state game protest. Started from one team noticing different players in the same uniform from Saturday to Sunday. We ended up protesting the game and turned in the money. The staff returned the cash and said save your money. We confirmed the 4 releases and verified the required paperwork is in KC we're done. I asked so as long as KC has paperwork nothing can be done? Why don't you confirm who is playing on the team? So you don't care who is in the uniform as long as the paperwork is right? The reply was there is nothing we can do. We don't know the identity of the girls. Sad a team can't field a full team and needs 4 players for state not normally on the roster to compete. The state is now investigating the improper return of the protest money.

No insight into your dilemma, but I am very impressed that the opposing team was able to release 4 players and have the players' uniforms returned, presumably/hopefully cleaned, and redistributed in less than 24 hours!

Just a note....probably comparing apples and bananas here.

It sounds as though this is a player eligibility issue...something the umpire on the game is not going to be involved with.

The general theme of this thread is protests of rule misapplications and how that affects the game in progress. Not to belittle your specific situation, just to point out a specific difference in the nature of the protest.
