So here's the scenario from the game tonight.

No runners on. Batter hits ball to pitcher who overthrows 1B. Batter goes to 2nd. Ball arrives in the glove of SS who has a foot on the bag BEFORE baserunner arrives. No tag is applied. Baserunner turns up to go to 3B and is turned back by 3B Coach. SS still has not tagged runner. Runner is called out.

Shouldn't that runner be safe?

My guess is he just missed the call. He looked super new and it wasn't the end of the world. It was a regular season REC game and wasn't the difference in the game by a long shot.

No idea why they called her out. I thought maybe they threw it back to P which could have invoked LBR.

These are exactly the times when a coach should ask for time, wait for it to be granted, then not start arguing, but politely ask the umpire to explain why his runner was called out. It might prove to be a learning experience for either the coach or the umpire!
