I think I know but checking to make sure on this Flex/DP rule
First, say you have 10 on your line up with a DP and a Flex...DP is hitting 6 hole. Your DP is your starting pitcher and the flex will not start the game defensively....when your DP (who is the pitcher ) gets on base can you courtesy run for her since she is the pitcher? Is all of this legal up to this point....Thanks

Any pitcher or catcher of record (held that position at the end of the previous half inning or is listed as pitching on the line-up card in the top half of the first inning) who achieves base safely of their own accord is entitled to a courtesy runner, DP or not

The flex must play defense unless you drop down to nine players (but you didn't say you did that).

Yes..it was said....

lynx....everything you said is perfectly legal. The DP may play defense at any time in any position.
Just be aware that if the FLEX player is not playing defense, she has left the game and must use her re-entry to return.

Really enjoy this site. First time posting.

Scenario that I just haven't been able to find anywhere. Use of DP/Flex is in play. DP is batting leadoff. Inning 2 Bench player (B1) replaces Flex in RF. Inning 3 Bench player (B2) replaces B1 as Flex in RF. Neither Bench player has batted in the DP leadoff spot.

Given that neither B1 nor B2 played offensively and assumed a batting spot. Are they still tied to the DP spot in the batting line up?

Looking to get B1 to use her re-entry in Inning 5 to play defense and bat for LF.

Can B1 or even the starting FLEX player re-enter the game for a position other than DP?

The the only spot the FLEX or a substitute for the FLEX can bat is in the DP spot. When that happens, the lineup is reduced to 9 players and the DP has left the game and must use a reentry to play defense or bat.

Excellent. Thought maybe there was a loop hole that didn't tie a FLEX player to the DP spot as long as they never played offense. Thanks again.

It is the positions (DP & FLEX) that are connected, not the players. Though defensive only, the FLEX is still a position in the line-up. Any changes in that position of the line-up are treated the same as any other position. In your scenario, you now have three different players committed to the FLEX position, all which have one re-entry available; none can be in the line-up at the same time; And can only bat for the player in the DP position.
