I'm moving from Babe Ruth rules to ASA and I just want to be sure I understand a couple of rules. This is 10u Fastpitch.

I read this in Rule 8: Batter-Runner and Runner, Section 4, Paragraph H.

Is it true that a runner can only steal one base on a pitch?

Is it true a runner cannot steal home?

Is it true a runner cannot steal second base on a walk (until a pitch to the next batter)?

Those are special rules for 10U "B" level of play.

ASA - Rule 8.4.H doesn't match up with your questions.

No.

Is it true a runner cannot steal home?
No.

No.

ASA 8U is typically played with these limitations, but at 10U, bases are open (in my experience).

Our league has 2 divisions for 10u. One is called Middle School Division and one is Minor 10u. I will check with our league president to see if Minor 10u is considered "B" level play.
Thanks.

You can almost bet that your league has it's own rules on these situations. True ASA rules are real softball at this point.

This may vary by region, and sometimes local organizations apply their own rules that are different than what the ASA book says.

My DD has played 8U ASA "B" (rec), 10U ASA "B" & "C" (rec), and 10U ASA "A" (travel) in So Cal. The only time we have run into the limitations you describe was in 8U, which included tournaments up to ASA "B" State Championships.

At the 10U level, the only difference between 12U and 10U is the size of the ball and the pitching distance. All other rules are the same for ASA.

This is from a protected PDF so I couldn't copy and paste, but here is the wording I found for 8.4.H

Here are the league exceptions pertaining to base running.

7. Base Stealing

KHSAA rules will be followed on base stealing the only exception will be in Minor league.
Player may steal base on the Hand release when pitchers are pitching.

8. Minor league: A player is declared out on a dropped third strike and may not try to advance to first base. All other runners may try to advance at their own risk.

Hmmm...Not sure what to make of that.

My DD played ASA 10U up to the National Championship level this year, and I can tell you with 100% certainty that those rules are not in line with ASA's current rules, nor have they been since she started playing 10U two years ago. In 8U, those rules were in effect.

The rule book in the link is an older rule book. ASA eliminated the special 10U base running rules about eight years ago. They now use the same base running rules as all the other age groups.

But...as noted by others, it's not uncommon for a league to modify those rules for their own use.
