Does a game ball have to state 47 Cor and 375 compression?..... should the umpire check it if asked? Having a problem with teams playing with a Rhino ball by champion and they are terrible. Ball is extremely dead off the bat. Compression isn't listed but it does have NFHS on it. Is it legal? This of course pertains to high school and not travel ball.

Thanks

Per NFHS rules....yes.

Rule 1-3-4: The coefficient of restitution and compression shall be labeled on all balls

Haha... did they go cheap and got the cheap non-leather Rhino balls rather than the more expensive ones.

It is the difference between $60/dozen and $37/dozen but it is also the difference between a good ball and a bad ball. Unfortunately they are all NFHS approved/compliant.

Thanks....I thought it had to be labeled even if it said NFHS. Now I just have to get the ump's to know and apply the rule. Hopefully I won't see this ball in a game again. You can actually feel the "squishiness" of the ball.

So I have to wonder if the compression value a maximum threshold? Is there an expected range +/- 25#? Although it is 375# could they actually be closer to 300#?

If it has the NFHS stamp on it, it should be legal.
The rule book says it has to have compression and cor listed. I and apparently all the ump's thought the same thing. If you see one of these NFHS Rhino balls just beware. It's literally a soft ball.
