I am looking where to find this rule in the rule book.

Went to a ASA 18U girls fast pitch tournament in New York. The house rules for POOL PLAY said you could use up to 2 extra hitters in your line up and also the DP/flex.
So I was batting 11 players and playing 12 players, I used the 2 extra hitters and the DP/flex.

Here is what happen, In the 4th inning I put my 2 extra hitters in the field ( this is only a defensive move the batting order does not change ). I put EH1 in to LF and EH2 in to RF all 11 batters are still in there same order and all are still hitting. In the bottom of the 6 inning we go up by 2 runs and take the lead. As soon as we go up by two I call time out and I tried to put the LF who came out of the game but was still batting in her original line up spot back into the game at shortstop so I could get my #1 pitcher off the field to warm up. As I tell the home plate Ump that I am only doing a defensive change he tells me that I can not put the LF in at shortstop, he says she has to go back in where she came out of. I tell him that I am not using a sub this is a player that is in my batting order and I am not changing my batting order. The Ump says that ASA changed the rules this year and a EH can go in the game but is the same as a substitute player. They can only go in the game but just like a sub they can only go in for one player, The starting player may re enter the game but they have to go back into there original spot.

So I am looking for this :

1) is this really the rule
2) where can I find this rule in the rule book

Thanks

ASA does not allow EP/EH in fast pitch. So, no rule to cover that. Rule of thumb- anyone who says "they changed that rule" should not be believed.

Well, ASA did change the rule this year to allow coaches to bat up to the entire lineup in pool play. But, sounds like this particular tournament was not following that rule, they were using their own version allowing 2 extra hitters. Without knowing how they are treating these 2 extra players in their particular tournament rules your questions cant really be answered. But, typically speaking, in rule sets that do allow the use of extra hitters, they are essentially just more DP players and can go in and out on defense at will just the same as the DP.

But, the new ASA rule, while it does allow for batting of the lineup, only the first 9 players, or 10 with DP/flex are starters. While any other players below them on the lineup bat, they are not officially in the game and substitution rules do apply if they go in and out on defense. So, per the new ASA rule, yes the umpire is in a sense correct, but you were not batting your lineup, you were using extra hitters which is completely different. You need to get the rules governing the extra hitters from the tournament and how they apply to those players being used on defense.

And by the way, the new ASA rule will make you go nuts trying to figure out all the various ramifications of different moves. Someone was not thinking clearly when they voted in the new rule without further defining what could and couldn't be done.

You never have to go in the same defensive position that you were. The 2nd baseman can be moved anywhere(pitcher rules excluded) as long as they are being substituted for the same player they came in/out for in batting lineup.

However, these players did not come out of the lineup. They were playing the position of bench player and batting in the lineup. Now if either of these players are the dp or flex then there are some other rules to follow, but that's not what OP said.
