I would like to here from the umps on here. What or how would you have handled it. What would you do if attached 3 foot noodles to DD heels so she would have both feet on the rubber while starting at 40 ft instead of 43. No I wouldn't do it just wondering how you would handle it.

My understanding is the flap was cleared before it was used. Supposedly the ruling was the rules don't forbid it therefore it is legal. Personally I think there are plenty of rules that do address it. The foot must drag away, the flap is not the foot. Also the NCAA rules discuss that shoes must be warn and outs limits on the design of the shoes. It goes on to state a pitching toe may be attached to the shoe as long as it is securely fastened. The flap is not a pitching toe. It is a blatant attempt to circumvent the rules and as such I would think falls under the category of the umpire may rule on any item not specifically covered by the rules.

So for all the girls that have worked on pitching for 10 years or more, pitching within the rules. Now some player in college that couldn't work hard enough to pitch by the rules. Gets away with it. That is just great.

Will have to wait and see, but as you already know the response has been generally negative. Most people I have talked to think it will only be a short amount of time before a different ruling is made. If not, you are going to be seeing a lot more of the flaps shortly.

That is exactly how i feel. If ncaa doesnt step in then the next coach playing them should put extenders on the heals of the pitcher, give base runners batting
gloves with foam filled extended fingers and anything else they can come up with. not to cheat but to force them to address it.

If the NCAA drags their feet on this one or more of the alphabets such as ASA or PGF may end up forcing their hand.

Lets hope that happens, dont want to see leapers at tournys with flaps on their cleats.

Can see this happening at the field, 14u tourny pool play, opposing pitcher has flap.
C(our coach) OC(opposing coach) U(umpire)

C- Timeout blue
U- Granted
C- What that on the pitchers cleat?
U- Dont know
OC- It was done in college, its not against the rules.
U (not common sense) Play ball
U (common sense) R u friggin kidding me? Take that flap off or get another pitcher. That is not part of her shoe, stop trying to cicumscent the rules, dont ruin the game because your ace cant pitch within the rules.

I'll try this question again-

What if her toe really was in contact during this game and the flap was there for her to feel good contact? Or even of it was there for a placebo effect?

So if someone posted video of the entire game and saw that her toe was actually touching would everyone still be up in arms about this?

I think a lot of people took what a bitter coach said and ran with it and assumed it was an extension. Do you really have that low opinion of the umps, the kid, the coaches etc? I doubt any of them would approve of it as an extension.
