I know a base coach can not have any photography or electronic device while acting as a base coach. Can they have a notebook, clipboard, and writing utensil?

I believe the only restriction is an electronic communication device. Some rule sets specifically state they may have a score book. Never heard of a ban on a camera. With the proliferation of tablet PC's used for scoring this is rapidly becoming a gray area.

High school rules say "no electronic devices" by anyone affiliated with the team. I asked, wondering how you can do gamechanger without an electronic device. The association said the rule's main concern is teams video taping and radaring other team's batters and pitchers.

Sounds like the rule needs to be revised. Both of those activities are easily accomplished with a tablet PC while running game changer. And a tablet PC by definition is a communication device. Maybe better to focus on specific actions rather than devices.

Yes. That is what they said. A rule that had yet to be, and probably rarely will be enforced unless an official judges that someone is using their tablet or phone to record the opposing team. I commented that it would probably take a complaint from the opposing team.

When I'm on first, I keep my GoPro remote in my pocket....pretty sure I'm not supposed to in any sanction. But it's small and looks a bit like a count clicker.

What can a base-coach have in his hands? A Big Mac and a chocolate shake? You know after three games in a row in the losers bracket?

Coach may have an indicator, scorebook of any type with a writing/marking utensil. If electronic, the device may be used ONLY for the purpose of keeping score and/or recording stats.

If found to be using the electronic device for anything else, the coach is in violation of the rules and is not going to coach, or leave the electronic device in the dugout. Or they can be given a warning and a second violation could be an ejection or even, under ASA 5.4.F, a forfeit. Yes, that is extreme and I would not ever expect it to happen, just pointing out that there is a rule that allows such a penalty.
