This is where mine has the advantage, LHP the screw or screw/drop is moving away from a RH batter.

With a LH slapper, her screw is coming across mid plate, then breaks sharply inside and down. Making the slapper adjust the bat path, or hitting off the handle. ( or sending someone to the ER in the case above )

Greenmonsters............Mine does have a good backdoor "curve". Last night in the second game of the double header she had 10 K's, six of those were backdoor curve final strikes. I really like that pitch.

I'm sorry for what happened to your daughters friend.

I read a few of the responses, and there seems to be people who think this was preventable. . . that maybe if the batters wore plate mail, or the pitchers didn't throw live hitting, or if the ball was made of nerf, or on and on about ways that could make this "more safe", and I have to disagree.

It's a sport, injuries happen. The kid is going to heal. Nothing needs to change here. Screwball pitchers bean batters, it happens.

    Please quit arguing with screwball.

You use rise drop curve to righty for waste
Anyone who can throw that pitch deserves to be listened to.

Its an unfortunate accident, no need to stop live bp. What grade is the hurt girl in?

Its always best to hit your friends, you dont have to worry about retaliation

Hurt girl is a Junior. I always tell mine not to hit another pitcher, you'll be exchanging blows at the plate all season.

Why risk your teammates? I think the inside screwball "wild pitch" can be handled when it happens in a game.

If it is borderline than it is belt high and hittable or on the black. Sure practice hitting those. A waste pitch is typically off the plate on both planes. No reason to practice hitting that in BP.

[B]A backdoor screwball is typically an illegal pitch. [B]I've plenty of other options in BP .
Why? Because of stepping out of the lane?

2 years ago it seemed that every time my dd plunked a batter it was either the opposing pitcher or catcher.
