There was a link in the Coaches Insider email newsletter today to the video below. I can't believe anyone would actually promote this or teach it. There is so much wrong with it I don't even know where to begin.

Once again, be glad you have the Discuss Fastpitch Forum and don't have to depend on random videos on YouTube to learn about fastpitch softball.

I was thinking it was more 90's, I remember when all the girls were wearing their knee guards as shin guards.

It would have been nice if she was using a pitcher that was actually demonstrating what she was instructing.
Weight back, release at the hip-----)this kid never did.

And there are PC's here instructing that way.

I just wasted 3:32 minutes of my life. That is how long I watched this before I had to stop it. Jojo, you are right about what the pitcher was doing. The girl looks like a stick figure throwing the ball. This "instructor" needs to compare what she teaches to the what the best in the US are doing. The vast majority of top level pitchers in the country use leap and drag.

There is a guy who teaches something called the "Ground Power" pitching style. To me it sounds like plain old simple step style pitching that this guy renamed and trademarked. Almost everything the "instructor" in the video says sounds like it comes from this "Style" of pitching.

Is that Rita Lynn? It sounds like her.

Just so I'm clear, is that what people mean when they say step style pitching?

No, although the accent is the same that's not Rita Lynn. Here's one of hers which could pretty much be a rebuttal to the first video. She apparently does teach the figure 4 finish which I know many are not crazy about but otherwise this seems ok to me.

That video is old; she does not seem to be around anymore.

Look at how that shirt is tucked in, probably 90s as was said.

But having lived through that decade, we did not throw that slowly. The leap (no drag, ie, a crowhop back in the day) was done by men since the 70s, so even the old-fashioned style we used to use in (decade of your choice, not to tell one's age) emphasized being quick and explosive.
