OK... so I've convinced myself that starting with a new canvas (DD#2), I can teach the concept of the arm whip. Where I realize I am challenged, is taking this concept and instructing it to the full pitch. Now keep in mind that this little fire plug just turned 9 a few weeks ago. She can chuck it pretty good in drill..... but as soon as the full motion is introduced, it goes in the pooper. She has ZERO body awareness during the full motion. As smooth and effortless as she looks in drill... she looks like an elephant in labor during the full pitch. We've just started to introduce the concept of the full motion. So for all you DFP rockstars out there with experience in this area (building the full motion in a very young one), do you keep plugging away at it... and let it be ugly until they develop some body awareness knowing that bad habits will form and need to be broken/fixed down the road?

Here's the progression of drills..... Lock it in-(didn't film unlock it), Liberty, and 3 quarter... then the dreaded "pitch"

Wish you would have got "un-Lock-it" would be nice to have all 4 in one clip.
Lighting in basement working good for making Clips

Any reason why your not having her bring it to the hip??? I would, then put a piece of Tape @ 45 degree angle @ her height -3"...then have her pitch into a mirror... JMHO... Sounds like fun... here is DD @ 9 1/2 or 3/4... LOL

Maybe the funniest thing I have read on DFP since I have been here. Thanks for the chuckle!!

Are you sure you aren't being over critical? I didn't think the full pitch looked THAT bad. Especially for the age.

You are being way too hard on her. Good lookin' little pitcher!

That's what I was thinking too. He's got it going on !!! She's a RockStar !!! My DD got caught up in playin up on a Team...and had to go with what we had. She did real good... put it right across the plate, and they couldn't hit it... back then...

The challenge... he is facing now, is to get the segmented drills to flow into the Full Motion. Hoping to have him document how he does it !!!

My clip, that I took a lot of flack over back in the day was having the "moving mat". (thus my signature) There was piece of plastic tarp taped under where her back foot dragged... making it even slicker.... the que to get her up & light on the toe was "don't wrinkle the rug". At this point she was jumping past her height -3"... the tape on a 45.... my approach on everything is feet first....JMHO

She has exceeded my expectations to date as far as where she is right now with her ability to throw the ball....I just can't seem to get the rest of her body to sync up. She's like a noodle...which from the perspective of arm whip is great. The throw is relaxed and natural in drill.... she's beyond the mechanical forced movements. I just need her to develop some rigidity in her foundation to support the top half...and unfortunately I have little experience dealing with this age and don't really know where to go next. That's where I am seeking input. Thanks for the responses....

Glad to share, an outside the box, opposite end of the spectrum perspective....just for conceptualizing

Traditional view would be, that you take what you got, & get it driving hard to slam on the brakes ...resistance. Then get that ball to end up just on all the outside borders of the strike zone.

I would start with connecting stride hitting Mechanics for that movement.

I would PM you my theory... clips... ect... But I think this thread is going to be Big League  as soon as this semi-pro can get out of the way.

The rigidity you are looking for largely has to do with core strength and knowing how to use it. It really is an age thing. Just keep harping the basics, let her grow and gain strength, and it will all come together. She might be 10, 12, or 14 before it does, all athletes develop body control at different ages, but she'll get there.

In my opinion, she looks really good for just turning 9. I mean really good.
