Just wondering where 44-45 mph stacks up for a 10 yr old from 35 feet. Threw a 12 in RevFire today with her pitching coach.

Mid-40's is is above average for 10YO. You said she threw a 12? You mean 12inch ball or 12 spin rate per sec (RPS)? Also, RevFire is great at measuring RPS but not accurate for pitching speeds especially at 35 feet (I think they only have 2 settings, 40feet and 43feet) which makes a big difference is she is pitching from 35feet?

With that said, I would use the RevFire to measure and increase her spin rate which becomes more and more important as she moves up to 12U and 14u, and back to 40feet and 43feet.

12 in ball. Sorry. Thanks for the reply!

From my personal experiments with my Pocket Radar at various tournaments (in GA, A ball mostly, so not elite PGFers but good teams) mid-40s is pretty good. The fastest I clocked last year were upper 40s which is not to say nobody in 10U pitches 50s but not many in my limited experience. My DD turned 10 in Sep, is in her 2nd year of pitching, and from full pitch her max we've caught on a gun is 48. In games, she is 42-46 for her fastball. Found this online:

Age Average Pitching Speed Top Pitching Speed
10u 37-41 MPH 43-46 MPH
12u 44-47 MPH 50-53 MPH
14u 46-49 MPH 52-55 MPH
16u 50-53 MPH 54-57 MPH
18u 53-56 MPH 58-61 MPH

I believe this is supposed to be average, since obviously there are plenty of 10U pitchers breaking 46.

USSSA Elite All-American tryouts has speed measurements for kids from around the country. I only vaguely remember but there were kids at 10 who were in the 50s. It's really tough to determine where your DD stands because at 10u you can have a January 06 kid who is a 2024 graduation year and a September 06 kid who is a 2025 graduation year.

2nd year 10u my DD was cruising at 47/48, occasionally throwing 50mph, according to pocket radar. In NorCal 10u B last summer it seemed about 1/3rd of the teams had a pitcher cruising 47/48 and 1/3rd had one throwing 44/45.

So it sounds as though if the reading is accurate she's in pretty good shape. She just started pitching in June so that's encouraging! Thanks all!

Anything over 40 MPH at 10U is very good, but I would not get too caught up in comparing pitching speeds until a player reaches 16U. Players mature at different times and the 12U flame throwing phenom could be washed up by 16U as her peers pass her by. Work on proper mechanics and hitting her spots, then add a change up!

Mid 40's is good for 10U around here. I've spent the last 3 years watching 10A and B ball and have only seen a couple in the low 50's. Those pitchers could throw it by almost anyone so they didn't develop any other pitches and are a lot less effective at the 12U level.

I agree. Focus is definitely mechanics and her location. Just started working on a change up. It's really fun to see her learning what can come from hard work! (And by hard work I mean having fun throwing a ball around!)
