I don't know if this is necessary. Remember, most innings last 15 - 20 pitches and then the pitcher rests on the bench for 10 or 15 minutes during the half inning. Plus the game is a LOT slower than pitching practice because there are foul balls, time outs, base hits, coaches conferences with their batter, changing out a batter with a pinch runner, etc.

You're talking one game. I'm addressing the OP with his DD having to pitch multiple games in a weekend. Which is not an uncommon occurrence. While the pace of the pitches being thrown is less than a pitching practice the cumulative effect of playing and being on the field as well as pitching does add up.

I've never heard a coach complain about an athlete being in too good of shape.

Lastly, for what its worth, DD has been pitching for 7 years and I only felt the need to have her ice her arm once when her idiot coach pitched her three straight game including a 9 inning ITB. She has never had any injuries pitching (knock on wood) even without icing. Ice reduces swelling for injuries and most all pitching sessions should not result in injuries. The reason you see professional pitchers ice in MLB and NPF is that they have prior, chronic injuries and the ice helps reduce swelling. I have even seen parents in rec league ice their DD who just pitched two innings in the game. Absolutely ridiculous....You want to help your DD after the game, have her cool down by jogging a few laps around the field to INCREASE blood flow, not DECREASE blood flow by icing.

You have your opinions about what should and shouldn't be done. For me, I would follow the lead of the trainers who are tasked with keeping multi-million dollar athletes healthy.

Thanks to all for advise. Definitely things to implement as we go forward. In the end, I called the PC, she said normal for someone her experience to get sore and wanted to see to evaluate which muscle groups were sore to make sure no injuries occured. Also, for others she said is normal for second day to be worse than first (at least for her) and that LIGHT work 1st day after will help recovery. Gave us some good post pitch advise. DD was feeling better by end of school day and we ended up having a good workout and learning some new (and non-pitching) things to become better all-around softball player. Thank you all again.

Lats being sore tells me that she's pulling the ball down with adduction and whip... she not pitching with shoulder muscles! This is a good sign! Rub some biofreeze on it and high five her for me!
