Also, is bat speed more significant than exit speed?
I apologize for the hijack, but this question has been bugging me for a few weeks.
As most of you know I use the Zepp quite a bit with my girls, and every now and then, one of them will absolutely destroy a ball... And you know that sound of total destruction! No doubt a dinger. But the Zepp reads 52 mph, and all her swings before that were 60+
I know it probably hit the sweet spot just right, but my point is that overall strength and form will get higher exit speeds and in my opinion should trump just bat speed

I would not over think this. The purpose of these standards is to keep away the players that have no chance of making the team, and hopefully limiting it to serious players. I am sure that there is tremendous flexibility depending on the actual demonstrated skills. Just as with the Women's National Team the coaches will first and foremost pick the players that are politically connected and then fill out the team with the best players available. Many players are already selected before any tryouts and this is more about appearances than finding the best players. :)

Very true Riseball;) The one thing that I thought was pretty interesting was the speed differential on the change-up at 18 mph lower than max speed. I had always focused on around 10 mph slower but 18 mph seems like a lot. Guess we have some work to do.....

I agree and strive for 12-15 MPH for my DD. College softball junkies on here, what is the typical speed differential for top D1 pitchers?
