More coaches need to watch this is all I am going to say.

Crystal, you are just running into the local softball idiots. They don't understand what it is going on, so they make stuff up as they go.

You are learning the game from people that really know their stuff. Your knowledge of the sport is greater than most of the people you are around. You have to get used to being the smartest person in the room. (At most softball parents meetings, it isn't much of an accomplishment.)

I remember the first time I used dynamic stretching for my team...the amount of whining from the parents was unbelievable.

Going along with this is I would add educate your DD as you go. Make sure you tell her why you are working on things. Show her videos. Let her see for herself. I also print out color pics of great pitchers in different phases of the motion - drive, brush, follow through, etc. for her to hang on her closet. Once she is solid herself in what you are working on then she can take comments from well meaning people with a grain of salt and smile and nod. Then as your knowledge evolves keep explaining to her what strides she's made and why you are shifting your focus. I'm won't be surprised if my DD tries coaching someday because she has the knowledge that we are learning here together - combined with the actual results of all the hard work.

The "local softball idiots" like to talk a whole lot and like to be verbally aggressive with their message. I should never have to defend the choices I make of where my daughter get pitching lessons from. I can handle it but when it comes to my daughter who just wants to learn, it confuses her. She doesn't know what to say when they try to change her and I see her looking at me with a look of "what do I supposed to do?" I tell her smile and say thank you and keep doing what she is doing…the hard part is when coaches she respect try to change what she is doing. Example: I tell her not to walk out of her pitch…other person says she is stopping her pitch and need to continue waking 2 more steps into a fielding stance.

I would not be afraid to just let them know...she has a pitching coach. If it is a long distance coach and on line helpers who cares.

As long as she continues to improve which it looks like she is and she can perform in the circle the coach should just be happy they have a quality pitcher on their staff, end of story.

People want to "touch the magic" and claim some part in your DD's future success. The world is populated by well-intentioned people who don't have a clue. You DD has to learn how to deal with it.

I tell her smile and say thank you and keep doing what she is doing…the hard part is when coaches she respect try to change what she is doing

This is called the "smile and nod". She should practice putting a big smile on her face and vigorously nodding...then ignore what she was told. It will get easier as she gets older.

The more experienced coaches only care about success, and generally won't interfere as long as the kid is getting outs.

other person says she is stopping her pitch and need to continue waking 2 more steps into a fielding stance.

Oh brother...

Again, you and your DD have to work through this. If you get confused, come here and post questions. It is OK...we've all been through it.

Go to Rick's page and commit to your memory all of Sarah and Rick's accolades in the "About" section. When others give you their advice mention she has been coached by Rick Pauly and proceed to go in to all of their softball accomplishments. If they don't stop at that point they are beyond help.

Rick and Sarah can be able to hire me as their PR person by now.
