I saw the cost for a revFire and it looks a bit steep. Does anyone know of any less expensive alternates that provide direct feedback to the user? Thanks!

A taped ball. Seriously, it will tell you quite a bit. I tell my students that they should always be throwing a taped ball and evaluating spin direction, axis, and rate with each pitch. The only time I use my RevFire is to get quantifiable numbers for use in player profiles.

I'm thinking... (watch out) I can count the Revolutions from a clip.... Has to be outside, bright sunny day, filmed @ right angle.

No instant feed back.... going to be another of my long drawn out ordeal's.... LOL ...But then I'll have to get a Rev-Fire to prove it :(

I have a Rev Fire. Rarely, if ever, do we use it. So many variables on what constitutes a good spin. What matters is the movement of the ball, that's when you'll know. Keep this in mind: let's say a girl has the perfect axis (say for a drop ball) and she measures out at 20rps while throwing 50mph. This will equal out to a degree of movement. So she works on increasing her spin but at the same time her mph goes up. Providing the axis stays the same the degree of movement will remain the same as well. I don't have the formula (I doubt there is one) but if there was it would look something like this Axis x Spin / MPH = Movement. Slow a pitch down just a bit and increase spin with good axis....wicked movement.

. Do they even sell rev fire anywhere these days?
Actually, most of the places I saw them advertised said "out of stock" when. Went to their website.
Didn't try eBay though- I think I'll try the taped ball first:rolleyes:

My recommendation is to do both: put black tape on the RevFire ball :)

My RevFire balls have black tape on them as well. Experience has taught me that the more a spin is bullet oriented the more it spins (RPS). The more it comes around to 12 to 6 (drop ball) the slower the spin. The key is finding the right balance of speed, spin and axis. The RevFire and only tell you one of the parameters. Your eyes are the best gauge.
