I recently posted in another thread about my DD what worked really well for her this past season. She struggled getting the speed difference and consistency with it. Became frustrating for her. So we worked really hard on disguising the pitch and enhancing the movement that was already there and that worked really well for her. She threw the ball too hard a good percentage of the time but it was just slow enough and disguised that she got weak contact and K's with the pitch. We are talking taking only 5-10% off the speed a lot of the time. An offspeed basically. But with some control and could fool even good hitters.

Anything thrown in the 28-29 range is going to have a hump at 43'. To me at that angle of a pitch it would be easier to pickup.

I might throw it as a differnt pitch but not as the primary change (for a pitcher throwing mid 50's).

My daughter throws a rainbow pitch (think slow pitch) once a game. It freaks everyone out. Yes it's legal.

Good travel players are the only risk with that slow of a change. Good club batters can reload. It still is not as bad as a fastball down the middle but a faster offspeed to the better batters is more better :)
