When is it a Balk

When is it a balk or Illegal pitch in softball?
The pitcher has ball inside the glove and the hands have not separated yet. She flinches, hands still together and then does her wind up. Would this be a illegal pitch?

No such thing as a balk in softball. Different rule sets have slightly different rules as to when the pitch starts. NFHS says when the hands separate or any motion associated with the windup. ASA says when the hands separate. Based on your description, it is nothing.

She could do the macarena with her hands together as long as she's done and separates her hands to start the windup within the 10 seconds and starts her pitch. Unless, of course, she makes a travesty of the game. ;)
