My dd has had an increase in her pitching speed in the last month from a consistent 53 to a consistent 58. This is a result from some changes in her mechanics that seemed minor but had big results. The only thing is that she now is struggling with her control which is resulting in more walks. Is there any advice to help with this or is this temporary until she adjust to the increase in speed?

It depend on where she is missing. If she has starting using her legs and getting more drive off the pitching plate her pitches will probably be high. She needs to work at home to adjust her release point to account for the new "uummppphhh" in her pitching motion.

This is a common problem. She won't suddenly fix her control problems unless she works on her control at practice.

SO:

a) Make sure she has brush interference (BI). Without BI, she won't be able to find the plate with a compass and a GPS when hits 60.
b) Go back and work on control. Turn off the gun, and just practice control.

I wish I knew. He changed her delivery to include a backswing and has been working on her push off and stride. It seems like minor changes but seems to be making a huge difference. The increase in her speed was noticeable almost immediately. She was clocked at her last practice at a consistent 58 with a high of 61. Not bad for a 14 y/o.

As far as control I'm with Hillhouse, keep it simple. If she's missing high or low it's a timing issue, left or right it's mechanics.

Thank you, she seems to be missing high a lot so I think it's more timing her release.

As an old bucket-dad of a college pitcher I have the advantage of hind-sight.

My college sophomore DD ended the season as an accuracy star. This is after the summer before (even the choppy-health two years before that) she was an accuracy "challenge".

The magical secret sauce I find out from her after a fantastic playoffs display of accuracy => "just plain ole reps dad",... which induced confidence (it was this simple).

This was after I was in a nation-wide search years earlier to identify the magical coach/trainer that could flip this switch (physically or mentally).

She just needed to dedicate and mature ON HER OWN.

This is just a counter-thought to the continuous conclusion in DFP of "ya gotta go get it fixed with an expert coach/trainer..... (which I am not discounting that confidence can get step-function improvements with the right influential trainer/coach - but this search for that right influence can turn into a search for the holy grail.....)

I'm going to take some video of her at this weekend's tournament. Those speeds were practice speeds and her putting everything she has into it. Still a huge Improvement from where she was. It will be interesting to see what she clocks with game speed. I'm hoping it's close.
