I'm going to take some video of her at this weekend's tournament. Those speeds were practice speeds and her putting everything she has into it. Still a huge Improvement from where she was. It will be interesting to see what she clocks with game speed. I'm hoping it's close.

Have her throw from the power position NOT going all the way around and not using her legs just working on location, buckets upon buckets... When her accuracy improves have her include her legs but still do NOT go all the way around, buckets upon buckets....Its boring as hell turn on the music and feed her softballs. When she starts to locate and can throw at least 5 strikes in a row with her go to pitch then go all the way around.

What I was taught by the o'l timer as I was learning, "If you can't get it right doing it that way, then you have no business going all the way around" so thats kinda what I preach now to my students. Hell, I figure the guy who taught me pitched for 48 years A, AA and Open so I figure he has to know a thing or two about a thing or two, right?! Well good luck!

She used to have excellent control and did not have many walks. It wasn't until she gained this speed that I noticed her struggling with mostly missing high. We have been focusing on control extensively in practice. Hoping to see improvement this weekend.i think she has had to work on her release.

Had a scrimmage last night and she struggled the 1st inning with 2 walks and Hbp. After the 1st inning she seemed to make adjustments and pitched well the rest of the game with no more walks and only giving up 1 hit. I wish I could get her coming out pitching strong from the start because this seems to be a pattern for her.

Physically and mentally a pitcher is one of the most complex creatures ever to walk the earth. Your experience is quite normal and over time the control issue will get sorted out. Just keep focusing on the mechanics and do lots of video analysis. When I look back on my DD's development as a pitcher the one tool that made the largest impact was and still is high speed video.

It sounds like in your quest for speed she may be simply over throwing the ball, which messes up timing and causes the ball to go high. The speed needs to come from somewhere other than her trying to muscle it for power. Not to mention, if I read correctly, your PC switched her to a back swing? <sigh> That there may be what's thrown off her timing. I'll bet dollars to donuts she's locked her arm and has to muscle it. If you can get an HONEST answer from her, ask if her shoulder is sore in the front near the collar bone. If yes, then the backswing is hurting her... literally.

My DD has the same problem, we call it "Tom Glavine syndrome". A good resolution is to throw a simulated inning at the end of warm ups.

Thank you for all the advise that I have been getting. I am new to this site and I absolutely love it. I have to admit that a lot of the terms used on here are brand new to me like IR. I found myself watching my dd pitch in slo mo and found myself surprised she was already using IR and that 1 of her previous coaches was referring to her IR as bad mechanics. So glad to have found this site.

Well, I am happy to say that my dd seems to have fixed her control problems! She pitched amazing in this weekend's tournament! She was hitting her spots consistently with not many walks at all. I am so proud of her, she has been working hard in practice and it is paying off!
